MORE ABOUT THE ART OF JEET KUNE DO

Jun Fan Gung Fu is a blended martial art emphasizing fluidity and efficiency in all ranges of combat (e.g. kicking, punching, hand trapping, and grappling). It was developed by the late Bruce Lee, in response to his frustration with the restrictions imposed by classical styles.  There are no forms, katas, or traditional elements, and only those techniques which are useful for street self-defense are practiced.  Jun Fan Gung Fu is the foundation from which Jeet Kune Do eventually evolved.

I have not invented a "new style," composite, modified or otherwise that is set within distinct form as apart from "this" method or "that" method. On the contrary, I hope to free my followers from clinging to styles, patterns, or molds. Remember that Jeet Kune Do is merely a name used, a mirror in which to see "ourselves"
-Bruce Lee

The Philosophy of Jeet Kune Do

Like any art, practicing a martial art requires self-expression. Your performance or creation is something personal that comes from within, but is expressed using tools and techniques that have been acquired over time and through constant practice. For the painter, these tools include a steady hand and a well trained eye, while the martial artist utilizes punches, kicks, and good timing. Both the painter and the JKD master will forget those tools when it is time to perform, and the art will simply flow without effort.

A good fight should be like a small play...but played seriously. When the opponent expands, l contract. When he contracts, l expand. And when there is an opportunity... l do not hit...it hits all by itself.
-Bruce Lee
