1. What is Gung Fu (Kung Fu)?
A: Gung Fu or Kung Fu is a Chinese word meaning cultivated skill obtained by long and hard work.

2. Why should I try Gung Fu?
A:  There are many benefits to Kung Fu training, including:
-Improved fitness and flexibility
-Learning invaluable self-defense skills
-It's something fun to look forward to each week
-New friends
-Greater Confidence

When you learn kung fu you are learning an art, and you will gain deeper fulfillment than by weight training or playing a sport.  Through determination and patience you will achieve something that few have, a black sash or black belt.

3.  Is Gung Fu training for Adults?
A:  All martial arts were developed by adults to be used by adults. Kids programs are meant to teach important life skills while laying the foundation for adult training. Some great martial artists start at a young age, but it is certainly not required.

4.  Does Centerline offer kids classes?
A: Centerline Martial Arts Instructors are available to teach children's Gung-Fu and Kickboxing at community centers, but we do not offer a regular program at the studio. Contact us to inquire about setting up a kid's program in your community, or try this link if you are looking for kid's karate in the Hartford area: Giroux Bros Martial Arts

5.  What styles do you teach?
A: We do not teach any one style.  Jeet Kune Do incorporates techniques and skills from many styles, but gets at the essence and principles behind these technique without being chained down by them.  While studying JKD your training will evolve into a unique style best suited for you.

6. Are there traditional elements to training, like Kata (forms)?
A:  Although we maintain certain values associated with traditional martial arts, structured forms are not the best way to master the techniques and skills which are practical for combat.

7.  How much does it cost to train at Centerline?
A:  The value of martial arts training is not quantifiable.  However, the cost to  train with us is about as much as your daily cup of coffee.  Please contact us for specific information regarding membership options.

8.  What training equipment do I need?
A:  Most of the equipment you’ll need for training is owned by the school and available during class.  This includes focus mitts, kicking shields, jump ropes, etc.  Eventually you will need to purchase your own sparring gear (gloves, mouthguard, and cup). Headgear and shinguards are highly recommended.

9.  What do I wear to class?
A:  Simply wear comfortable workout clothes to class.  It is required that students purchase a Centerline T-shirt to wear to class within the first month of training.

10.  How can I find out if Centerline is a good fit for me?
A:  Come down and try a week for free!  You have nothing to lose, and so much to gain.  The Martial Arts change lives!
